Welcome!

Let’s dive right in. What’s the purpose of this website, why did I make it, and why should you care?

I actually think that the name of the website perfectly answers the question. If you couldn’t tell, 2022: An AI Odyssey is a play on the title of Stanley Kubrick film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film wrestles with the ramifications of sentient AI and is a story both about the promises of AI and how it can go wrong. In similar fashion, I want to use my little corner of the internet to bring to light how the current implementation of AI is fundamentally unethical and how AI can alternatively be used in a more socially cognizant manner. As a sort of case study, I am writing a blog which focuses on how the dazzling and frightening complexity of language models can be used to better understand social biases, rather than facilitate them.

I have also noticed that popular culture, including movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey, have skewed the public perception on what AI actually is (a little secret — its just math). So if you feel like you always hear the term AI but the only thing that comes to your mind is Ultron from the Avengers, this is the place for you. I will be posting resources and discussing concepts to explain what artificial intelligence, in its current state, actually is and how it works.

Now that you’re still here, you may be interested to know who I am. My name is Benjamin Pusch and I am currently a softmore studying Computer Science and Economics at Trinity College Dublin.

I hope you enjoy looking around and reading my blog!
